Breath Work Frequently Asked Questions
Book NowBreathwork FAQs
Whether you’re new to breathwork or already curious about its benefits, here are answers to the questions we’re asked most often.
WHAT IS BREATHWORK THERAPY (REBIRTHING)?
Breathwork is a breathing technique that uses conscious, connected breath. By breathing in this way over a period of time (usually about an hour), your body becomes energised and you can enter an altered state of awareness. During this time, emotions, memories and physical sensations may surface.
Allowing these to be felt and expressed can lead to realisations about life patterns, giving you the ability to make changes. The results can include healing on many levels — physical, emotional, and spiritual. Many people leave a session with a deep sense of relaxation and wellbeing.
WHAT DOES A BREATHWORK THERAPY SESSION LOOK LIKE?
A Breathwork session is usually done lying down, with your Breathworker beside you for guidance and support. A consultation generally runs for 2–3 hours, with the active breathing lasting around 60–90 minutes.
Every session is unique. You may experience:
- Changes in body temperature
- Tingling or other physical sensations
- Emotional release such as sadness, anger, or joy
- Memories surfacing from different stages of life
- A sense of relaxation, peace, or bliss afterwards
Often, insights and realisations follow, helping you better understand patterns in your life and creating the space for change.
WHAT DOES BREATHWORK DO TO YOUR BODY?
Breathwork increases oxygen flow and stimulates the nervous system. It can release physical tension, help process stored emotions, and shift energy throughout the body. Many people leave a session feeling lighter, calmer, and more energised.
IS BREATHWORK SAFE?
Yes. Breathwork is safe when guided by a trained Breathworker who can support you throughout the process. It is not recommended to practise intensive techniques on your own until you’ve had at least 10 guided sessions.
If you are pregnant or have a medical condition, consult your doctor first and let your Breathworker know before starting.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU DO BREATHWORK?
It is usually recommended to undertake a series of 10 sessions, with time in between to process and integrate your experiences. After that, you may choose to continue with regular sessions depending on your goals and personal journey.
HOW DO YOU FEEL AFTER BREATHWORK?
Every session is unique, but people commonly report:
- A deep sense of relaxation and calm
- Emotional release and relief
- Increased energy and clarity
- Insights into beliefs or patterns that may be holding them back
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MEDITATION AND BREATHWORK?
Meditation is generally about stillness and quieting the mind. Breathwork is an active process that uses the breath to shift energy, release emotions, and access deeper states of awareness. Many people find breathwork enhances and complements meditation.
CAN YOU DO BREATHWORK WHILE PREGNANT?
Gentle breathing practices may be helpful during pregnancy, but intensive breathwork techniques are not recommended without medical guidance. Always consult your healthcare provider and let your Breathworker know if you are pregnant so sessions can be adapted safely.
IS IT A CULT OR RELIGION?
No. Breathwork is simply a breathing technique. You bring your own perspective — whether spiritual or not. Breathworkers respect all systems of thought.
DOES IT ALWAYS WORK?
Every session is different. The key is to stay present, breathe, and trust the process. Even if the experience feels subtle at the time, benefits often unfold in the days and weeks afterwards.
WHAT DIFFERENCE WILL BREATHWORK MAKE TO MY LIFE?
Breathwork can release physical and emotional tension, bring unconscious patterns into awareness, and create space for personal growth. For many, it becomes a powerful tool for long-term change and wellbeing.
HOW WILL I KNOW IF THIS WILL BE USEFUL TO ME?
It seems that if you have been drawn to investigate this technique then it will be of benefit to you. Anyone who is prepared to take personal responsibility for their lives can use the technique and gain benefit from it. Breathwork is based on the concept ‘Thought is creative’. In simple terms this means that your life is a reflection of what you think and believe. If you want different results, then you must change your thinking. Identifying the beliefs and patterns which run in your life can help you make the change.
It is recommended that you take the time to find the Breathworker who suits you and with whom you feel comfortable.
